Classic…Liberal Claims Senate Candidate Flying w/ “Big Oil”

Print View

For those of you who aren’t following discussions on the Montana politics ( #MTPol ) hashtag on Twitter…you’re certainly missing out.  Check out what happened after a Lee Newspapers reporter tweeted out a picture as he flew up to Sidney, Montana on a Cape Air flight for the US Senate debate.

Joining the state political reporter on the flight was Republican US Senate candidate Steve Daines (R-MT).

After the picture was sent out via Twitter, a former Democratic legislative candidate from Dillon launched into the usual tirade, this time claiming that Daines (and, by extension, the reporter) was being shuffled around by “Big Oil.” Uh….sorry- but that’s actually a Cape Air flight.

So, let’s try and build a defense for Duffy.  She wasn’t really suggesting that Daines and Dennison were flying on a corporate oil company jet.  She simply was saying that Daines had the campaign donations to afford a flight.  “Amanda drove,” says Duffy.

There’s just one problem with that argument attempt:  a round trip flight from Billings to Sidney on Cape Air is basically $100.  Can you drive the 541 miles roundtrip on $100 worth of gas?  I’m no math teacher- but…

When going to the Cape air web site for the fare ticket price from Bozeman, Mt. to Sidney, Mt. the price quoted was $1427.00. If you were to get a price of $100 I believe you would have to be Republican Steve Daines.jsi2

If the rent for that flight was 1427, then Mike Dennison better write one HECK of a story.

Except Cape Air doesn’t fly out of Bozeman…..only Billings and e Montana locations. Check for yourselves.

Bugger’ off I say!
What web site did you find $1427 on???
It’s NOT on Cape Air…
“EVERY FLIGHT IS $49 EACH WAY”…duh…
That equals $98 round trip… under even that $100 figure!

Looks like a Piper Navaho to me, with those Recip engines.

Wish they would expand over to our West…
BEATS DRIVING for hours on end!…safer too! (no deer, eh?).

Test question for Amanda Curtis Math Class:

Candidate A drives from Billings to Sidney (270.5 miles one way) then returns that night. The candidate drives no faster than 75 MPH. The candidate makes 4 restroom stops of 15 minutes each on the first leg (nervous runs), and stops for road beers 4 times on the way home (1 hour each).
Candidate C takes a local subsidized flight for $48 each way which takes less than a hour each way..

Questions:
What mileage would Candidate A’s car have to get to cost less than Candidate B’s tickets @ $3.33 per gallon?
How long does it take Candidate A to get to Sidney and back to Billings (fastest possible time)?
Which Candidate would be the better financial manager of time and resources?
