Grassley Says Baucus “Fed Up” with Obamacare

Senator Max Baucus (D-MT) announced his retirement less than one week after he referred to Obamacare as a “train wreck” in front of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius.

Since he first breathed those words it seems a day doesn’t go by that the words “train wreck” are not used in any article dealing with Obamacare.  The Obamacare “train wreck” is now part of the normal political lexicon.  It also may be why Senator Baucus is retiring from the US Senate, as National Review reports:

Democratic senator Max Baucus is retiring because he is “fed up” with the Affordable Care Act, according to his Republican colleague Chuck Grassley. Speaking at Friday night’s Lincoln Day dinner in Iowa, Grassley told the audience the Montana senator is leaving office ”because he’s so fed up with the possibility of the implementation of Obamacare being a train wreck.”

Baucus and Grassley are also reported to be close friends as the top Republican and Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee. The above story made The Drudge Report over the weekend.

Baucus was also featured prominently in a FoxNews.com piece topping their website Monday morning.  The story dealt with reports confirming that the IRS targeted Tea Party and conservative groups.

A top Democrat — Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus — also said Monday that his committee would launch a “full investigation” into the matter.

“These actions by the IRS are an outrageous abuse of power and a breach of the public’s trust. Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is intolerable,” the Montana Democrat said in a statement. “Americans expect the IRS to do its job without passion or prejudice. We need to get to the bottom of what happened here. … The IRS will now be the ones put under additional scrutiny.”

Montana’s Congressman Steve Daines (R-MT) also released this statement:

DAINES: “Recent actions by the IRS are unacceptable and demonstrate an outrageous violation of the American people’s trust. Intentionally and unfairly targeting any group based on their beliefs or political views is completely inexcusable. It is imperative that the IRS and all those responsible for this abuse of power are held accountable. I support a full investigation of these IRS practices and will fight to ensure the American people receive the answers they deserve.”
