Senator Max Baucus (D-MT), during his nomination hearing *to serve as US ambassador to China*, says he is “no real expert on China.” Meanwhile, Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) asks if Sen. Baucus is attempting to influence the outcome of the 2014 US Senate race in Montana by leaving early and allowing Democrats to try and build up their hoped-for successor. It’s a move national Republicans have called “The Big Sky Buyoff,” and now Baucus’s own words will only add more fuel to the fire. Video is included below.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) asked Sen. Baucus about religious liberties, or the lack thereof, in China. Would Baucus attend an unlisted Christian church service in China?
Baucus: “I will take actions which I hope accomplish that objective. With respect to where I go and do not go, that’s a matter of judgment and its one I am going to be thinking about very carefully- about where I go and where I do not go. The goal here is to be effective…”
He added, “Let me not answer that directly because I do not know the degree to which that makes sense at this point.”
