Montana Democrats appear to finally have a candidate for the 2014 US Senate race in Montana.  The candidate? Apparent political newcomer Dirk Adams, a mortgage banker who owns a Wilsall ranch and the Wilsall General Store.

According to Paul Van Tricht, Adams announced his run for the US Senate during the Yellowstone County Democrats weekly breakfast in Billings.

Tricht said Adams passed out a copy of his resume’, and noted that Dirk Adams mentioned that after purchasing the ranch in 1984 he would return to Montana every weekend from his banking jobs across the country.

Here’s the rundown from Paul Van Tricht:

This morning I talked to Dirk Adams who is running for the Democratic Nomination to the U.S. Senate.

Who is Dirk Adams?

He is currently a rancher (1,000 head of cattle) on the Shields River near Wilsall.  (That’s about 45 miles from Bozeman.)  He has ranched there since 1984.   He also owns the Wilsall General Store and is the founder to Wilsall Coummnity Events which sponsors the Wilsall Ranck Rodeo.  He is the current Directo of the Montana Stockgrowers, Research, Education and Endowment Foundation.

He is 62 years old.  He was born in Nebraska and raised in Texas..
He graduated from Univ. of Texas in 1972 (Summa cum Laude) and from Harvard Law (Cum Laude) in 1976.
He taught the 7th grade for the Houstan Public Schools in 1973.  He also taught Business law at MSU Bozeman from 2001 to 2003 and U of M, Missoula from 1979 to 1980.

He has practiced law as partner, Phillips, Lytle Law Firm 1976 to  1983.  He was General Counsel and Acting Chief Supervisory Agent, Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco 1983 to 1987.  From 1987 to 2000 he was executive vice president of Golden west Financial and World Savings.  From 2002 to 2004 he was executive vice president, First Federal Savings Bank.  From 2004 to 2012 was Chariman and CEO of Home Savings Bancorp to Minnesota.
Throughout this time, from 1983 to 2013 he commuted each weekend to his ranch in Wilsall which he built from 3 head of cows to 1,000 head of cows.

Thats all I know.  Do you know anything else?

Dirk Adams did return a voicemail message Wednesday afternoon confirming that he is running for the US Senate as a Democrat in Montana.  Previously, I also contacted the Wilsall General Store, and the lady who answered the call confirmed that a Dirk Adams owns the store.  (It’s a pretty cool little store if you haven’t been there, by the way.  Free coffee for shoppers by the front door.)

Apparently Adams is already building a campaign website which was obviously under construction on this Wednesday afternoon.
