UPDATE

The Chief of Police says a recent attack on an elderly pro-life activist in Kalispell does not appear to be politically motivated.

Chief Roger Nasset says the device, that pro-life activists said was akin to a Molotov Cocktail, was a watter bottle containing acid and tinfoil that created a small explosion.  Nasset says Kalispell police are investigating five similar incidents during the same time period.

The incident occurred on March 17th during a “40 Days for Life” prayer vigil held outside of a Kalispell abortion facility.

PRIOR POST

Now, before you read this blog post, I want you to first stop and think about this:  what if a gay rights activist had a molotov cocktail style device thrown at them in Missoula while they were rallying in support of Missoula’s equality ordinance?  That’s right- there would have rightly been outrage, investigations, and questions answered.

Of course that’s why I find it odd that I haven’t read anything locally on this incident in Kalispell, Montana, where an elderly Pro Life activist allegedly had a molotov cocktail style object thrown at her. (Maybe someone locally did an article that I missed, if so send me a link)

LifeSiteNews.com had this:

A homemade “bomb” akin to a Molotov cocktail was thrown at an elderly pro-life activist during a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil yesterday, March 17. The attack took place at around 6:15 p.m., near the All Family Health Care abortion center in Kalispell, Montana, according to the Thomas More Society (TMS)

According to Karen Trierweiler, coordinator of the 40 Days prayer vigils in Kalispell, the device was thrown at one of the vigil participants, an elderly retired woman, by an unidentified assailant as she walked on the public sidewalk near the abortion facility.

The victim did not see the thrower, nor did she see the device before it exploded on the sidewalk behind her, making a loud popping noise as it burst into flame. The victim was unhurt.

I missed this story last week while I was in Afghanistan, but national radio talk show host Roger Hedgecock featured the story on his show Friday.  I contacted the Kalispell Police Chief on Monday morning, followed up again on Tuesday, and so far have not heard back to confirm that an incident was reported.  Will keep you posted as more information comes available.

**As an update:  KAJ-TV posted this story over the weekend containing more details.   The Daily Inter Lake also posted an article over the weekend, which you can find by clicking here.
