It’s back to school season for many of you parents out there. Most folks are out buying pencils, a new pair of jeans, or shoes. But for a 9 year old girl in Dodson, Montana- back to school time has meant picking out a wheelchair for the first time, and for her family- figuring out how to make their home wheelchair accessible.
From Greg Kielb with KMMR radio in Malta:
An accident near Conrad recently resulted in 9 year old Victoria Kirby sustaining injuries that have put her in a wheelchair. She is a student at Dodson. Her mother, Samaria, is a teacher at Dodson. Victoria lost her grandfather in the accident, and her grandmother was seriously injured.
Victoria spent two weeks at Sacred Heart in Spokane. She is now undergoing therapy at Benefis West, in Great Falls. She is expected to return to school in Dodson, but therapy sessions will need to continue. She may return to Spokane, or possibly San Francisco.
They need to make their home wheelchair accessible, cover travel and meal costs, aside from medical bills.
Anyone wishing to help can make a check to Victoria Kirby Fund, mail it to box 1073, Malta, 59538. Thank you.
KMMR radio hosted an all-day radiothon in order to benefit the Kirby family Thursday.
