I’ve been live streaming the Republican National Convention from our website, you can also view it below.
Today (Tuesday), US House candidate Steve Daines (R-MT) addressed the convention. Almost right after his speech completed, Dustin Hurst with The Montana Watchdog filed this report:
“My great-great grandmother left Norway and came to Montana in search of a better future,” Daines told delegates. “As a widow with seven children, she homesteaded on the plains of northern Montana. On her tombstone are three simple words: ‘Saved by Grace.’
“The words ‘Saved by Government’ would never have crossed her mind. She put her faith in God not Government.”
More news from the GOP convention below, but first- is Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D-MT) prepping a 2016 run for the White House himself? Schweitzer addressed the Democratic National Convention in 2008 with much acclaim from Democrats across the country. No word yet on if he will address the convention this Fall, but he apparently is making a pitch to the Iowa delegation in Charlotte.
Politico has this:
Other national pols speaking to the state’s delegation during that week include New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Now, back to the Republican National Convention. If you’d like to watch the convention live, click below, or keep an eye on my home page
The quote of the week so far goes to Bowen Greenwood. Cyndi Baker’s RNC Blog at The Great Falls Tribune had this:
Bowen Greenwood, the executive director of the Montana Republican Party, had the quote of the day: “I’m so commited to beating Obama that I’m willing to fly into a hurricane.”
Daily Caller: Gingrich Fires Back at Matthews:
Gingrich turned the tables on Matthews, asking: “Why do you assume ‘food stamp’ refers to black? What kind of racist thinking do you have? Why are you being a racist, because you assume he’s referring to black?”
“I think there are a lot of people in America who listen to people like you who tell them all day how racist — you just had a panel with a guy who was black who was telling the two guys who were white they were nuts,” Gingrich said. “Two guys who are white [are telling him] ‘why are you not more sensitive to being black?’ I think Michael Steele knows he’s black. I don’t think it’s a great shock to him.”
Hotline on the Montana gubernatorial race:
— Don’t look now, but one of the cycle’s top races is developing under the radar in Montana…The RGA released a television ad attacking Democratic Attorney General Steve Bullock, while an outside group funded by the DGA went after former Rep. Rick Hill, the GOP nominee…The contest has been overshadowed by the Senate race thus far, but keep an eye on this one: it’s one of the few gubernatorial battles that promises to remain suspenseful all the way to Election Day.
