The Sunday news shows and other programming was dominated by talk of gun control over the weekend, here’s a sampling of the reaction from the left and the right:
Bill Bennett on NBC’s Meet The Press at the 4:06 mark:
“And I’m not so sure — and I’m sure I’ll get mail for this — I’m not so sure I wouldn’t want one person in a school armed, ready for this kind of thing,” Bennett continued. “The principal lunged at this guy. The school psychologist lunged at the guy. Has to be someone who’s trained. Has to be someone who’s responsible.”
Bennett’s suggestion goes against the tide of calls for more gun control that have come in the wake of the tragedy.

George Will- Tougher Gun Laws Won’t Help on ABC:
“In 1996, a man went into a gym class in Scotland, [and] killed sixteen 5-and 6-year-olds and the teacher,” Will said. “A few years ago in Norway, a young, deranged, young man killed, what, 69 people on an island, mostly teenagers. Connecticut has among the toughest gun laws in this country. Didn’t help. Scotland and Norway have very tough gun laws. Didn’t help.”
John Lott, Jr. on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight (Sent on to me from a listener in Butte):
LOTT: Look at what has happened, all these attacks this year have occurred where guns are banned. Look at the Aurora movie theater shooting.
MORGAN: What the hell has that got to do with it? Seriously? What has that got to do with it?
LOTT: You never let me explain. Can I say something?
MORGAN: — gun-free zone.
LOTT: Look at the movie theater one, for example. There were seven movie theaters showing the movie “Batman” movie within a 20 minute drive of where the killer lived. Only one of those banned guns. He didn’t go to the movie theater closest to his home. He didn’t go to the movie theater with the largest screen. He went to the one movie theater that banned guns.

Liberal MSNBC Host and North Dakota Native Ed Schultz says “I’ve changed”- calling for gun control. (h/t SayAnythingBlog)
“Tonight is… a time we as a people come to grips with a changing society,” Schultz said. “We need to be the Founding Fathers on how we deal with the sickness in our country called ‘gun violence.’ Hiding behind the Second Amendment doesn’t cut it anymore.”
“Hiding behind the Second Amendment can no longer be the shield for access. The people who wrote that document owned slaves, oppressed women, and were short on tolerance.”
And, as The Daily Caller notes, liberal blogger David Sirota had this to say on profiling mental illness:
But Sirota said that kind of profiling system would be politically untenable.
“The issue with it will be politically, I think, the profile is white men,” Sirota said. “The profile, that’s a profile that’s not essentially in America, allowed to be profiled. That’s the one profile in America that’s not allowed to be profiled. If this was any other kind of demographic, you would be hearing that I think, in a different way — a much uglier way.”
