“He’s gotta convince me.” That’s what newly sworn-in Congressman Ryan Zinke (R-MT) had to say for the Republican leader in the House John Boehner (R-MT). Zinke said he is undecided on who he will vote for when it comes to Speaker of the House in the new session of Congress as he spoke with me Tuesday morning on our statewide radio talk show Voices of Montana. (Boehner is facing a challenge from House conservatives)
Earlier this morning, I listened as Zinke also told KMMS radio host Chris Griffin in Bozeman that he was undecided on speaker, but did add that he likes Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX).

I also asked Zinke about how the GOP is going to win back the support of the conservative base, after snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory during the lame duck session that forced a new wilderness designation in Montana.
Zinke said, “I share the same concerns. I watched it like everybody else. He added that starting today with the new Congress, there’s no more excuses. Unlike the lame duck session you can’t blame Harry Reid, because he’s out of power.

At the end of the day, shortly before I wrapped up this post, the vote came in. John Boehner confirmed as Speaker of the House. And while it looks as though Zinke did not vote against Boehner, the mere threat in itself may be a wake up call for the leadership to stand up and deliver.

Oh Crap! Commander Zinke’s first time at the plate, “Strike One”. This was a great opportunity to show the country how Montanan’s view our current leadership. Does Congressman Zinke talk out of both sides of his mouth? Zinke says he’s the last one to vote, but yet Congressman Ted Yoho (FL), second to last, votes against Boehner and his poor leadership. Zinke says Americans need sound leadership, but yet Zinke votes for the inept leader. Red Alert Montanan’s; revaluate your contributions to Zinke’s program. He may be walking off the job in two years.
