Reason.com: Meet the Left-Wing Extremist Running for U.S. Senate

Did you hear about the Republican candidate for Senate out West who wants to overthrow the entire American economic system? The one who, when asked about his view on the situation on Iraq, said he needed more time? Who said he couldn’t answer questions about the situation at the Mexican border because “only 11 days ago I was painting my storm windows”?

Of course you didn’t. Because he is a she, and a Democrat. Her name is Amanda Curtis.

You certainly would have heard about a Republican candidate like that, though. He would have been banner-headline material on The Huffington Post, Salon, and other liberal redoubts. Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert would have given him the business. Op/ed columnists around the country would have held him up as an example of how radical wingnuts had seized control of the GOP.

The Missoulian: Hamilton lab details Ebola, MERS work during visit by Daines

In a few days, Rocky Mountain Laboratory’s Dr. Vincent Munster will be in Liberia working to unlock the secrets of what’s driving an outbreak of the Ebola virus that has already killed several thousand people.

“The current Ebola outbreak in Liberia is something that we haven’t experienced before on this scale,” Munster told Daines. “It appears that it hasn’t reached its plateau by far.”

Munster’s team will relieve another group of RML scientists who have spent the past three weeks studying the virus that’s behind the outbreak.

Although they didn’t come right out and say it…a new Billings Gazette editorial is a great reminder: a good chunk of Shiloh Road funding in Billings came thanks to former Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) role on the US Senate Appropriations Committee. (Baucus was not on the Approps Committee)

In November 2000, Billings celebrated the opening of the Shiloh/Zoo Drive Interstate 90 interchange. The $21 million project was completed with $16 million in federal earmarks obtained by then-Sens. Conrad Burns and Max Baucus.

The upgrade of Shiloh Road was already planned, but the 4.5-mile project would require even more federal money. There was an earmark obtained by Baucus and Burns, then an earmark designated by Baucus and Sen. Jon Tester. In spring 2009, the project was still short of funds for its $46 million total cost. Then the state of Montana was able to designate $9.5 million in American Reinvestment and Recovery Act money to finish the project.

This week Scheels’ 220,000-square-foot sporting goods store will be the biggest business to join this bustling commercial corridor. The giant Scheels store stands out with its soaring roof enclosing a Ferris wheel. But many other businesses have chosen Shiloh Road since federal funds paid for the interchange and road upgrade.
