But first, The Hill takes notice of former Navy SEAL Ryan Zinke’s campaign for the US House in Montana.
The Hill: Former SEAL runs as hawk in Montana
Former SEAL Team Six commander Ryan Zinke (R) is making a charge for Congress from Montana and intends to make his voice heard on foreign policy if elected.
“We’re going to fight ISIS. I’d rather fight ISIS in the deserts of Iraq than in the streets of America,” he said.
He also blasted President Obama for not doing more to secure the release of Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a Marine who’s been in a jail in Tijuana, Mexico, since he reportedly crossed the border by mistake in March.
The Hill also noted that strategists from both parties say Zinke has the edge in the US House race.
Great Falls Tribune: Campaigns shoot off mouth on guns
Montana Republicans this week accused Democrat John Lewis of having “anti-Second Amendment friends” such as U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, who came to Montana recently to campaign for Lewis, who is running for Montana’s lone House seat. The GOP said Hoyer has a 0 percent rating from the National Rifle Association. Supporting gun control or appearing anti-gun can cause big problems at the polls for Montana politicians.
A campaign flier circulated by Ryan Zinke for Congress contrasts the “Two Lives” of Zinke and Democratic opponent John Lewis. In one example, the flier notes Zinke in 1986 graduated from U.S. Navy SEAL training the same year Lewis entered third grade. It talks about how between 2010 and 2013 Zinke “builds own small business” while Lewis “serves as state director for Sen. Max Baucus (and) helps pass Obamacare.” Zinke has a thicker resume than does Lewis, but the flier also reflects that Lewis is younger. The flier added a disclaimer: “Ryan Zinke is a retired U.S. Navy SEAL. Use of his military rank, job titles and photographs in uniform does not imply endorsement by the Department of the Navy or the Department of Defense.”

Wall Street Journal: Dick Cheney is Still Right
President Obama will lay out his plan to counter the Islamic State on Wednesday night, and we’ll judge the strategy on its merits. But the mere fact that Mr. Obama feels obliged to send Americans to fight again in Iraq acknowledges the failure of his foreign policy. He is tacitly admitting that the liberal critique of the Bush Administration’s approach to Islamic terrorism was wrong.
We hope tonight’s speech shows a more realistic President determined to defeat Islamic State, but whatever he says will have to overcome the doubts about American resolve that he has spread around the world for nearly six years. One way to start undoing the damage would be to concede that Dick Cheney was right all along.

I don’t like unions. Oh, I like the idea of them – helping poor workers fight incompetent and corrupt corporate bosses. I like that idea a lot, and that’s what unions used to stand for.
But they don’t stand for that anymore – now they stand for enriching those at the top of the organization at the expense of the workers they’re supposed to represent.
Nothing epitomizes this more than the salary of MEA-MFT union president Eric Feaver. I’m sorry, but is making $125,000 a year going to help those struggling teachers in Montana?

“That sounds like contemporary communism,” said Montana Public Radio reporter Edward O’Brien of the Industrial Workers of the World, a labor group for which Montana legislator Amanda Curtis’ husband is a representative.
