Although we haven’t seen much in the news about Senator Jon Tester’s (D-MT) schedule leading up to the November 2nd election, it sure seems like a busy time for the former band teacher, tooting his horn in support of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), California Senator Barbara Boxer, and now the Democratic challenger to Republican candidate Rand Paul.
In an email to his supporters, Senator Tester called on Montanans to contribute to Barbara Boxers embattled US Senate race in California.
Here’s an excerpt from that e-mail:
Sen. Jon Tester, (D-MT): It’s no mystery what’s going on here. Big corporations trying to gain a foothold in the Senate have found one of their own who will spend whatever it takes to buy this seat. But you can’t buy leadership like the kind Barbara Boxer provides. And we can’t afford to lose what she brings to the Senate.
Soon, Tester will be off to Kentucky to campaign against Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul, the son of former Presidential candidate Ron Paul who gained an impressive following in Montana.
As Bluegrass Politics reports, Tester’s visit will come just before the anticipated visit by former President Bill Clinton:
Besides Clinton’s Nov. 1 visit, U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Montana, is to campaign with Conway next week in Hopkinsville. Conway said Tester is a farmer and will be discussing farm issues with him in Western Kentucky.
I previously covered Senator Tester’s visit to Nevada in support of Reid. Here’s how the Elko Daily Free Press summed up Tester’s visit:
U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., said Friday Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., is strong on Western values, and the options “if Harry doesn’t come back scare me.”
“Tester has been in office four years, and he said Reid is an effective majority leader.”
Of course, all this is mainly what we are gathering just from the web, there may be more appearances in the works, but his full schedule is not posted on his website.
You gotta hand it to Tester for having the gumption to campaign for Harry Reid and Barbara Boxer this year. Especially considering that he is only 2 years away from his first re-election campaign in 2012. And if Barbara Boxer is in trouble in California for her liberal votes on spending, you have to assume that Jon Tester wuold also be in trouble back here in Montana.
